Clinical pathology involves the laboratory evaluation of blood, bodily fluids or body tissues in order to identify existing disease. Common laboratory tests include blood chemistries, complete blood counts, blood clotting times, urinalysis, faecal tests, biopsy examination, cultures and infectious disease testing.
At Balhannah Small Animal Vet Clinic, we're equipped with an in-house laboratory that allows our vets to quickly perform many of the diagnostic tests required for accurate and rapid diagnosis. This is especially important in very ill animals and those requiring immediate or emergency treatment. Some more specialised tests may need to be performed by an external veterinary pathology lab and we will organise this in-house, if required.
Our in-house diagnostics can provide results on the same day. Specialised testing may take longer, especially if the sample is sent to an external pathologist. External laboratory results are usually available within 12-24 hours for blood results or up to 7 days for biopsy results, depending on the nature of the test being performed. We will contact you directly as soon as your pets diagnostic results are received and reviewed..
